Here's what our compiler Al Kunz has to say: “ This year we continued our decrease in number of voters participating, down from 36 last year to 26. Unlike the decreases over the last several years I don't believe this is related to people leaving P2. The past few years we received several votes from former P2ers who dropped in just to vote and see the results. That didn't happen this year nor did it seem I received as many votes from lurkers as in past years (thanks for those who did, now stop lurking ).

“Second, I believe part of the decrease can be attributed to the difference in how a lot of us now buy music. Even the largely middle-age demographic of P2 is making the move to electronic formats. With the option of buying single tracks, it appears many don't always buy an entire album. The current economic woes might have also impacted our music budgets this year.

“245 discs received votes this year compared to 306 last year. 69 discs met the criteria for inclusion by receiving at least 20 points compared to 97 discs last year. Although the large number of discs meant the votes were spread out, the top discs were all discussed onlist at some point during the year. Speaking for myself, several discs that made my list would not have been purchased were it not for P2 discussion (including our #1) so keep the discussion and recommendations coming.

“The numbers following each disc artist/title are total number of votes, number of #1 votes (from those who ranked their choices), and last the total number of voters who included the disc on their ballot.”
